An interactive customer knows why I made every decision and that it was based on their input. I am happy because they are pleased with the result. That's because they know the room limitations, budget, acoustics and aesthetics have all been considered in helping them achieve their dream.

The theater has added a new dimension to our home. We love being able to simply go down stairs and enjoy a movie house experience. Would not have changed a thing.

I'd had other kinds of custom systems, but I'm much happier with this one than I was with the others. It's easier to use even though I'm using it in a much bigger application, it's more reliable, and it's expandable. And best of all," he says with a smile, "it's very cost-effective. Q. As professional installers, do you use generic wire and cables or do you go high-end? Does it depend on the job? Can you tell the difference? Scott's Answer

Hidden Outdoor Theater

HOME of the YEAR 2007 Award Winner

Problem: When the Cliffs Communities came to Harmony Interiors to integrate technology into their golf dream home we knew we were going to have to come up with something rather creative. Simply putting in speakers and a few plasma TVs was not going to fulfill the dream. Although there is a housewide audio system throughout the home, it was the magnificent entertaining porch that caught our attention. It was to be a social patio with a grill and a large stone fireplace. It is obvious that its intent was to enjoy the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the fall colors while warming by the fire. But when the sun goes down, the mountain temperatures are pleasant, and even in the summer you can enjoy the evening air.

Screen on patio

Solution: We converted the patio into a nighttime theater. Hidden in the ceiling is an HD video projector that lowers with the press of a button on the MX300 remote. Then between the wooden and stone columns a Draper movie screen appears. But the best part is that we used rear projection screen material that can accommodate a few people in chairs on the patio or a larger crowd out on the lawn. On the patio there is full 5.1 surround that also blends in, thanks to a Bose Built-Invisible speaker system.

This is a beautiful home but we are concerned that between the mountain views and the "walk in" theater those who visit may never go inside!

Movie while golfing
Since the image can be seen from both sides it is ideal for entertaining a larger group. In fact, you could even watch the golf tournament while practicing your game on the putting green in the back yard. Outdoor speakers were installed to reinforce the sound but are nearly invisible in the landscaping.
